Erbium Doped Fiber (EDF)

Optical fiber with erbium incorporated (doped) into the core structure. They have particular absorption/emission characteristics which make the fiber suitable for making an optical amplifier and ASE or laser sources with output around 1550nm; near the minimum attenuation wavelength of silica optical fiber favored by telecoms applications.
